PHIZZFEST SOUNDWALK
A playful sonic installation and soundwalk developed for Phibsborough’s Phizzfest in May 2023. Sounds of local social, cultural and historic importance were played into Phibsborough’s Streetscapes, inviting passers by to listen to found and archival material alongside the live sounds of the festival. It explores the concept of soundscapes in the way we perceive public space.

At Phibsborough Shopping Centre the chants of the Bohemian FC club as they battle their rivals, the Shamrock Rovers, were projected into the street designed to confuse and elicit emotion in the passerby.
On the North Circular Road the sounds of cows and bells were broadcast into the street, echoing the cattle run where cows were herded from the market at Hanlon’s Corner, through Phibsborough to the Docklands, also marking 50 years since it last occurred.
Actor Ste Murray recorded a reading of the section of Ulysses that brings the listener from Berkeley Road past Doyle’s Corner and up to Glasnevin Cemetery. QR codes placed along this route allowed you to listen while walking and to reflect on shifting impressions of place through the characters in tandem with your own.
