D + M HOUSE
This project works with a late 19th century estate house and makes a leaning extension to improve circulation and connectivity between house, garden and the work areas of the kitchen and utility. A ground floor shower room is also provided. Closed up openings were uncovered to make the new rear door and connection to the timber frame structure clad in reclaimed red brick. Internally the stonework and high level windows remain exposed to retain the texture of the existing house. The south facing sitting space looks out and opens to the rose garden and chestnut trees beyond and the change in level is celebrated by making a bench for pots and people.
